Frequently Asked Questions
I am afraid of hypnosis because I don’t want someone else
controlling my mind.
When you learn how the mind works through hypnosis, then you are
taking control of your own mind. It’s when you remain ignorant of
how the mind works that other people can control you. Hypnosis gives
you back your power because you find the answers within yourself.
You are always in charge of the process.
How does it work?
Hypnosis bypasses the reasoning, evaluating, judging part of the
mind (conscious) and goes straight to the subconscious mind where
memories are easily accessible and information is stored. From here,
limiting beliefs are dispelled and positive suggestions are made
that help you achieve your desired goal. Once the new desired goals
are “filed” in the memory banks of the subconscious mind, your
conscious mind will access this new information and help you change
your behavior to the desired goal.
What is the difference between the conscious, the
unconscious, and the subconscious minds?
The mind functions on two distinct levels – 10% of the mind
functions at the conscious level while 90% functions at the
unconscious level. The conscious mind deals with everyday living,
short-term memory, is logical, reasons, and analyzes. It controls
your voluntary bodily movements.
The unconscious mind has enormous information-processing
capabilities and is far more powerful than the conscious mind. The
unconscious mind is made up of the subconscious mind and the super
conscious mind. The super conscious mind is that aspect of the mind
that deals with your spiritual self. The subconscious mind houses
all memories, all involuntary bodily functions, all emotions and
feelings, as well as the habit control centers of the brain. It
takes in everything literally and is mechanical, automatic, and
impersonal. It accepts with no opinion or judgment all suggestions
and ideas given to it and cannot differentiate between what is real
and what is imagined. It will achieve only what it is programmed to
do.
What if I can’t be hypnotized?
Everyone can be hypnotized. In fact, hypnosis is a natural state of
mind. Meditation, prayer, daydreaming, and hypnosis are all the same
state of mind. They are just used for different purposes.
What do you mean by hypnotic trance?
Hypnotic trance is a shifting back and forth between the conscious
and subconscious mind, a natural process that occurs 80% of every
day.
What if I can’t come out of hypnosis?
There has never been a documented case of anyone being unable to
come out of hypnosis.
Will you make me cluck like a chicken or do something
embarrassing?
No, you’re referring to stage show hypnotism which is done for fun
and entertainment. In my office, you’re there to make positive
changes in your life, which is not to say that they couldn’t be fun!
Remember, you are always in control and will never do anything or
accept any suggestion that is against your moral values.
What if I discover something that I don’t want to know?
Your subconscious mind will only give you what you are ready to
handle. Trust the integrity of your subconscious mind. When you are
ready to address the issue, you’ll find it very empowering to
release it and move on with your life.
What if I divulge a secret that I don’t want anyone to know?
Hypnosis is not truth serum. Although it allows you to access
memories with great attention to detail, you are in control and can
always censor what you say.
What makes one person easier to hypnotize than another?
Concentration, desire, and intelligence level.
How much concentration does it take to be hypnotized?
If you can count from 1 to 10, you have the concentration it takes
to be hypnotized.
Isn’t hypnosis a form of sleep?
No. Unlike sleep, hypnosis is a state of focused concentration. You
are aware and can remember what went on during and after the
experience.
I am pregnant. Is hypnosis safe for my baby?
Yes, it is perfectly safe for you and the baby.
